Was Bidding for Terry pointless?

After having a £30 million bid for John Terry rejected I have been thinking that bidding at all was pointless.

For a start Chelsea are very unlikely to let John Terry leave Stamford Bridge for a couple of reasons, he is their captain and I don't think that Chelsea would risk losing him because he is the heart of their team

Then you have think would John Terry leave Chelsea and competing for titles for a move to City, I think if John Terry was to even think about signing for us we would have to pay him wages that he would not be worth. Terry is a good strong centre half but I am not convinced he is better than some other defenders that we could go for.

So would you like to see City go back with a bigger bid for Terry or is there another centre back you would like to see City go for?

  1. This certainly is a head-scratcher..

I can only think that there has been some indication from Terry that he may be interested if Chelsea were willing to sell but that certainly doesn't come across in his interviews ect

He'd be most welcome of course but I dont think we should waste any more time going back for him. In my opinion... get Tevez (fingers crossed) Eto'o would be a bonus but then we really need to focus on getting 2 proven c/backs and i would also like another C/midfielder but we shall see...

  4. Total waste of the clubs time, move on to a realistic target..

  5. If City sell Dunnie it will pretty much ruin some of your arguments (hear, captain, etc). Not many fans will see this as unlikely to happen this summer.

On the other hand the approach may help will unsettle Chelsea (and one of our contestants for 4th place) and the player a bit knowing that he is being held back. Terry himself would probably like to have a word in the sayings, and even if he refuses to go there will be moments where he wonders what it would have been like. Esp. since they are shifting Managers like crazy down there.....

  6. More chance of setting fire to a snowman, could always sign another striker

  7. City should pull out all the stops for

    Luisao, Lescott and Tevez

I am angry it how City are beating around the bush after the Kaka saga, it is like we are being extremely careful about not upsetting idiots like Blatter and Platini.

I say stuff the lot of them and get these 3 players in at all cost, just don't pay to much but enough to capture them.

  8. City gal here:
    Interesting articles.
I think the bid was a signal to City fans and other clubs that this is the calibre that we want. It is also telling Chelsea that there is a new King in town who will compete with them from here on in.
If we buy Lescott now it will be like saying to us fans, yes good player but we would have bought you Terry if we could.
I agree with you Terry is not as good as his reputation.

We are now going for top 4 at least and the signings demonstrate that. Not a chance Eto'o would agree terms with a club not going for CL spot.

I would like Bruno Alves of Porto now Albiol has gone to Real Madrid. Don't know enough of Lescott to know if he is better than Alves from his average England form. I also think it would be great if we signed an older head too like Ricardo Carvalho or the captain of Brazil Lucio of Bayern as Dunne has to go.

  12. I would really like to see the back line streathened with at least one quality c/b coming to the club. Terry would be a excellent buy, but I would be very suprised to see it happen.

  13. carvalho, luisao or chiellini any of those...
carvalho would be an absolute dream!
better if all 3 came though as chiellini is a natural LB if he replaced bridge and kompany moved to CB with ned i cant help but think richards has no future which is very saddening. carvalho would do supurb at RB (RB as Ned deserves his place!) with luisao back up or alternating through the season with ned and vince at CB as Alex does with terry and carvalho now.

  14. Is terry a smoke screen?

  15. Terry might be getting on a bit now and thinking he would like to secure himself one last big payday before he retires - as with a lot of players, City is viewed as the money bags club and the place to be if you just want the cash!

Personally I think Terry is overrated and I'd prefer we walk away and get someone younger and hungrier for success and who will buy into 'the project' and not just the money.

  16. Ted if it is true that we have not withdrawn our offer after being rejected then I can't see it being a smoke screen. And if its true what ssnews are saying about us keeping the offer on the table, I would think that means Terry has shown interest in coming perhaps.

  17. I think the motives around this are two fold:

no smoke without fire - think Jt might
    want to chat

the club using this as a smokescreen to force the issue on other centre half negitiaitons that we are undoubtedly having

    we will see

  18. as far as i'm concerned there's a better centre half than John Terry at Chelsea who would be around a quarter of the price, and who apparently is available!! It may be that Carvalho wants to rejoin with Mourinho at Inter, but surely he's worth having a look!! JT never looks the same player for Chelsea when Carvalho isn't playing

  19. I agree Carvalho is better than him!

  20. City gal - you are clueless. I've got some ironing for you here.

  21. How dare you lol I think he is better than Terry!

  22. Not worth buying Terry - he isn't a natural left footer. Petrov, Robinho, Barry, Bridge, Bojinov, Garrido - how about someone who can use both feet! Or are we trying to snap up every left footer on the planet?

Tevez on Monday, Eto' on Tuesday then a good centre back or 2 and we will be set.

  23. So Tevez delays yet further! Hmm... tiresome.
