City in Barry talks, do we want him?

Aston Villa have today confirmed that England International Gareth Barry is having talks with City about a possible move Eastlands.

I am not surprised that we or any team for that matter would try and sign Gareth Barry but for him to go as far as talking to us is a little baffling to me. Barry plays in a wonderful team at the moment with a great manager and they will be in Europe next season, so why would coming to City interest him?

There is really only a few reasons he would want to join us, he can see our potential, he thinks he will get to play along side great players or he is being offered huge money. Obviously most people will say it is for money and that could be the case, saying that I am not sure if Barry himself would leave his beloved Villa for a bit of extra cash. I don't care how much we pay him if he signs as long as he is winning football matches for us.

Now for the flip side will City fans be happy if we were to sign Barry? There isn't any doubts about his ability he is a good footballer and as for when he plays for England I am a huge fan and he would make my first eleven every time. I am just not sure if I like his style of play, that would be being picky though he is a damn good player and I say a good signing if it were to go through.

What do you think?

  2. Why he would join us is no concern of ours, all that matter is we could be signing a damn good footballer! The End!

  3. Get him. Godsakes the man oozes quality. Get the central defence sorted for someone to partner Ned and a decent striker (Nico for me)and we won't be a million miles away.

It will be fun to read the jokers on the MEN website trying to pick their team every week when they have to leave pure quality on the bench

  4. I think there are two potential and allied benfits:
    1) With his natural left foot / more defensive outlook he will provide protection on the left which we have been lacking all season.
    2) He will therefore enable Robinho to play that bit further forward.

  6. Would be an excellent signing. I don't care why he joins us, he will be an integral part to our rise next season and will fit in beautifully in our midfield. A very good first signing should it come off. CTID!

  7. Barry in means Elano out !! Hughes said he has no intention of letting players go until he has players to replace em ??
Barry is an amazing player and English to boot with the new rules meant to be introduced could be good foresight

    Elano however is Elano ??

  8. I don't think a lot of City fans would want to see Elano leave but its not up to us and call me mad but I trust Hughes when it comes to making signings so we will see.

  10. Why would he join City? Are you serious? Why wouldn't he want to join us?

Yes Villa are a good team and are in Europe next season, in contrast to us. I do believe that the money helps his decision but i also think that he knows where we're going. Everyone can see it starting to happen. Look how much better we are at the end of this season compared to last season - we were worse than awful under Sven.

But I actually believe that there's another reason why he would joins us...

...He wants out of Villa, he clearly showed that during the Liverpool saga, after which the Villa fans weren't happy with him and he went back there rather begrudgingly. Since we've shown such interest in him I reckon he'd have been more than happy to talk to us. It's always going to be difficult staying at a club that he's already stated doesn't have the ambitions to match his own.

Lets see if Liverpool make a move, only then will we know how much he likes the idea of coming to City but for now I'm hoping he signs...

  11. Barry not only gives more defensive cover on the left side - as someone posted, earlier - but also allows Kompany to move back into central defense. With De Jong, Barry, and Ireland in the middle, that's a lot of quality and a group who support each other's strengths and weaknesses... and with Kompany's size, speed, and greater footballing (distribution) ability in central defense, I estimate we will have just added nine to twelve in one signing. If that gets us near 62 points... to four is within sniffing distance w/ a true center forward the missing link to push us over the top.

  12. Mark well I think you may be slightly deluding yourself he is already at a big club that are in Europe so there is lots of reasons why he wouldn't want to join.
