De Jong omitted from Uefa squad

Today Mark Hughes has revealed Nigel De Jong will not be in the squad for the Uefa Cup, Hughes has chose Bellamy, Bridge and Given and with only 3 new additions allowed to be added due to Uefa rules that means De Jong misses out.

The reasons for not selecting De Jong over any of the 3 that were picked is that Hughes feels he has more than enough cover in his position. Hughes said.....

"We looked at Nigel, but with the cover we have in his area with Vincent [Kompany] and also Pablo [Zabaleta] that’s what we have gone with.

It is a shame that De Jong has to miss out as he looks a bit of a beast and European teams may not have liked the way he would have roughed them up but it does seem the right decision when you look at the big picture.

Saying that if Ball was fit to provide cover for Garrido I would have left Bridge out and Put De Jong in but due to Ball being injured that was never a possibility.
