David Gonzalez did sign!
Colombian goalkeeper David Gonzalez Giraldo is a Man City player.
He was on trial with us for a while and there was reports that he had signed although nothing official was ever released to say that he was a Man City player.
But he is a City player and we definitely know that now because he has been playing for the reserves.
Gonzalez has previously played for Independiente Medellin, Deportivo Cali, Caykur Rizespor and Huracan, he has also represented the Colombian National team.
He is suppose to be a decent keeper and holds the longest clean sheet record in Colombia. I don't know if he will ever make a first team squad but you never know, you would hope he is at least good enough to challenge Taylor for a place on the bench.

Does he come out for crosses??? If so it's not just Taylor he could challenge!!
ReplyDeletecan he stop a speculative soft shot from outside of the box instead of parrying it into the net?
ReplyDeletehe can still play for the reserves despite being on trial
ReplyDeleteIf he is willing to speak to his team-mates and clears the ball without dicking about with it for 5 minutes then pencil him in for Sunday.
ReplyDeleteFickle fans make me vomit.
ReplyDeleteWould you really REALLY drop Given?
does he have the largest widows peak on the planet? NOPE!
ReplyDeleteYeah that dicking about with the ball making his mind up who to pass the ball too and completely loosing those vital seconds to make a counter attack cheese me off as well. May be we should get SWP a huge flag on a pole for him to wave so our given can spot him
ReplyDeleteHe messed up last night big time....pity it seems that our Reserves were coming right....
ReplyDeleteWhite wrighting on sky blue background difficult to see
ReplyDeleteGive Given a break for gods sake. All keepers have problems but we're lucky enough to have probably the best in country. Lets support him - not destroy him.
ReplyDeleteThink of it another way - how would you feel if bacon face was coming in for him? If you're there, give him a big cheer when his name's called on Sunday. Lets stick together.
I hope my original post hasn't started an anti Given tirade! Personally i wouldn't drop Given at all - he has been one of our more consistent players all season and apart from a few blips (unfortunately for goalkeepers, blips are seen as huge, mountain sized errors)i have no issues with him (but i do wish he's come off his damned line more!). The goal he allowed in against Stoke - i think (hope) was a bit of a one-off and taking that match in isolation, there were plenty of others i would have pulled off before Shay. I do feel, however, that any players we sign nowadays should posess qualities that put regular first teamers under pressure - not just our reserve players - otherwise we will only end up with a team consisting largely of very well paid, complacent players who know their place is assured on most match days.......as if that could happen!! Come on City - can we please turn this turgid corner against Liverpool this weekend.
ReplyDeleteIts an argument that's been doing the rounds for some time now. I first heard Geordie fans talking about it when he was still at Newcastle and now its coming up all over again and I think there is an element of truth in it. He doesn't come for crosses, he doesn't boot the ball into row z when someone plays a through ball, we blame the defenders but he doesn't fill them full of confidence but he is after all a great shot stopper - a master of the spectacular - and that's what gets him noticed.
ReplyDeleteWho are all these idiots slagging off Given...
ReplyDeleteIf it wasn't for him this season we'd probably be below Birmingham at present...
I can't believe what a bunch of moaners so many of my fellow City fans are...
Nothing fickle about identifying a serious problem in our team - his long ball hoofing at every opportunity has turned us into a second-rate long ball team, not set up to play that way, not got the personnel. If it wasn't for the individual genius from Tevez, Bellers, Petrov, SWP and Richards, we'd get nothing up front.
ReplyDeleteWe play three defensive midfielders, and all our strikers are expected to do a defensive shift as well, just because Shay gives possession away so much it's criminal - contrast Fabianski at the Arse last night for instance - made a couple of howlers, but distributed the ball well to his defence and wingers, as a proper goalie should.
Basic goalkeeping duties - stopping shots, collecting crosses, passing the ball to our team - Shay only does one of those duties well, the other two he either doesn't do at all, or dithers and does very badly - he is a third of a good keeper.
Football is a team game, it starts at the back, and if it starts badly, the rest of the team is directly affected - which is why our defence is always under pressure, the creative midfielders are suffering as they don't get the ball in the right place and time to do anything with it, and the attackers get no service to speak of.
We could and should play so much better, but until the basics are sorted, we'll struggle.
David Gonzalez Giraldo was in City's squadlist for the Hull game. Wondered who he was!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't sound like he'll be challenging anytime soon if you read the report on the reserves site: http://mcfcreservesandacademy.co.uk/sunderlandreshome/
ReplyDeleteI don't see why Given should be immune for criticism if he deserves it. He is undoubtably one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe but his newly aquired habit of waiting until the last moment to clear the ball is totally unnecessary and will cost us dearly.
ReplyDeleteHe is not near good enough for First Team, Gonzo came here for our reserve side with the chance to fight for first team.
ReplyDeleteHis country are still developing and are at a similar level if not just behind Africa.

I reckon we'd be higher if we had Birmingham's keeper. Eh? Oh.
Given is a king amongst keepers. Capello must curse the fact he's not English. Step forward.....Joe Hart.
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck! Whats with slagging Given. Besides bellamy & tevez he's the best player all season
ReplyDeleteYoure not gonna beat Given for a keeper in England he's the only signing worth his money besides Tevez! What was he like 5 mill. lescott was like 27 mill. and he shouldn't even be in the reserves!
