Disgrace!

Man City 1 - 3 Fulham ( Ireland 28', Dempsey 50', 83', Etuhu 59')

First of all I am sorry that my post match is later than normal, but yesterday I was so angry that there would have been a big possibility that I may have said some bad things in temper.

We started yesterdays game very flat and to quote a favoured word of Hughes we didn't look one bit dynamic enough. When we went ahead, although we were not playing very well we were comfortable enough. Thankfully we went into the break leading, now I can only guess that Hughes's halftime team talk consisted of him telling our players Fulham were going to come and play at us and try to get a goal, I then think he must of followed that up by telling our players to let them do that, because that is what happened.

Fulham are a good team that's for sure, but getting beaten and letting yourself get beaten are two different things. Our team didn't look like they were bothered if they win or lose, we keep hearing all the right things being said after a poor performance but we never see any action taken to rectify these things and now it is starting to wear thin.

Yesterday's game has turned a lot of fans against Hughes and I think it is more than deserved at the moment. He does something good and then cancels it out by doing something stupid, for example yesterday I was quite pleased to see Kelvin Etuhu starting, he was rubbish but I am a big believer in replacing players like for like, I hate to see us plug gaps by playing people out of position, something we like to do a lot. He then follows that up with a poor decision, only playing one up front at home all the time is not acceptable, you just can not play that negative all the time and that was one major difference between us and Fulham, they had two strikers constantly troubling our defence.

I still feel Hughes can be the man to build a good strong squad but he needs to stop these stupid things he does. Dropping Robinho did not come off for him yesterday, I think a lot of people realised what he does do for our team, because we missed him. There was nobody dropping off and picking the ball up, something that Robinho does regularly, he also brings invention and movement, he is even adding work rate to his game lately. I think that because he hasn't scored for a while that we were getting distracted away from his other qualities.

To finish off I want to talk about Garrido, Garrido has looked dodgy in his last few appearances lately and I have said it is because he just needed to get back into the swing of things, that seems to have been the case going off yesterdays performance. I thought he was really good and is clearly a better left back than Wayne Bridge, his defending is better, he reads the game better, he is better going forward and he is quicker. Garrido should never have been dropped in the first place for Bridge he was just coming in to his own when Hughes decided to replace him, I hope he carries on playing well and keeps Wayne Bridge out of the team because I don't think Bridge is good enough.

Lets look forward to the Hamburg game now, maybe we have got our recent run of bad performances out of the way and we will stuff Hamburg, well we can all dream can't we?

  2. Realistically we aren't going to beat Hamburg especially with our injury crisis, with this in mind we need to get into 7th place losing yesterday was very damaging in that aspect considering the number of clubs in the race for the spot. We can have all the money in the world but if we don't make Europe we are going to have problems attracting players.
We have to replace Hughes in the summer

  3. Agreed the fans could play a huge part in that game, lets hope that fans and players a like have a good 90 minute performance at the ready.

  4. Can't see Hughes being able to turn anything around, yesterday we became alughing stock, no point in leaving it to the end of the season, get him out now. Find a suitable replacement, he cant cope with having money, cant attract big names and he certainly doesn't know how to pick a team even to beat an average side like Fulham. As stated one up front at home no chance not looking forward to Thursday night now.

  5. Come on thats no attitude to have, it is very realistic that we can beat Hamburg, I am not saying we will but well it is more than possible lets have a positive attitude. This second best mentality City fans have needs to be removed or we will never have any success.

  6. Etuhu never was a winger - he partnered Sturridge or Evans as a striker. If Hughes wanted a winger he should have played Weiss.

Petrov was garbage, he contibuted absolutely nothing. Bojinov is not a "lone-striker", same as all the other strikers we have. Hughes should have signed such a player in January if he wants to play 1 up.

Bellamy has a bad injury record - no surprise he's not fit. More poor judgement on Hughes' part.

Yesterday there was no leadership on the pitch - this has been a problem for years.

You're right about Garrido and Bridge, for too long our full backs have been made to look poor by the lack of assistance from the wing players.

Finally, if we have so many tired players, why wasn't Elano given a run

For Thursday I'd replace Richards with Zabaletta, play SWP, Elano, Kompany and Ireland in the middle. As for who plays up front, whoever is fit and willing to battle (not many of those I'm afraid.

Hughes has bought some good players - he's failing because he cannot get them to play as a team. A defeat on Thursday followed by a loss to WBA should see him off.

  7. Gary, you really think that Garrido is a better player than Bridge?

I'm afraid that disqualifies your judgement from being taken seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Garrido faster and better than Bridge? I don't think so. And what was he doing for Hamburgs third goal? Ball watching between 2 of their players. He's one of the easiest fullbacks to beat if you're a decent winger - push it past him and run - he's 2 yards back. Before he was dropped for Bridge his positional sense improved no end, but he just isn't an EPL fullback due to his weaknesses.

  9. Yeah Roger that is true Etuhu was a prolific goal scorer when he was coming through the ranks, but it seems he is a winger these last few seasons.

For the two anonymous guys I stand by my opinion, Garrido is better than Bridge for me, you can't say he didn't play better yesterday than Bridge ever has for us. And he is certainly faster than Bridge that is not opinion, that is plainly obvious for anyone to see.

  10. Sack Hughes he has Elano on the bench were taking about a a first choice Brazilian international here nuff said !!
This has been the way of it now for a long time Hughes has not got enough clout to attract the superstars city are supposed to be linked with it a joke how many times this season have we been ahead and lost, Hughes seems up hia own arse and I sick of excuses and I don't think Craig and Chad would be helping matters in the dressing room I also see Ireland putting in transfare request in the summer

    ReplyDelete
  11. I am sick of the excuses to, why would Ireland want to put a transfer request in though?

    ReplyDelete
  12. He lost to Brighton Forest and was a penalty kick away from losing to the Danish part timers
Thrsday is all we have to look forward to however even if City pull it out and rock Hamburg it must not mask the fact that Hughes has been nothing short of shit. Dont forget he has spent a boat laod of money too and has also had some of the best young talent at his disposal. The players dont play for him (apart from Ireland who is working his ass off)
Garrido, Bridge, Richards are all crap and have been at fault for countless goals. Dont forget it was Bridge that needlessly gave away the corner for the first goal in midweek
Hughes has to go. He and his Mickey Mouse back room staff should sod off to Swansea or Cardiff thats more their level. I was so dissapointed when MH was appointed and am even lower now that when were in the old second division. At least Big Joe had us trying to play with some direction and consistency
Rag Heads listen up, get rid of Sparky (more like backfire) NOW

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah that corner Bridge gave away for Hamburg's first goal tipped me over the edge as far as he is concerned. I was excited when we signed him but he is rubbish, I was willing to give him a chance but like I said giving that needless corner away was the final straw. I will still support him though as long as he plays for City, I do expect a new left back in the summer though.

  14. I am just so tired of being a city fan.
we climb up two rungs and fall down three.
i cant wait till the end of the season, this has been helish, we will get beaten by hamburge and hughes will say how proud of his players he is, blah blah .

    please get jose mourinho

    ReplyDelete
  15. hughes is a disgrace.. he needs to be sacked urgently!! season is just about over in 3 days!!
how the hell are we going to attract anyone for next season with no european football on the agenda!?!? hughes out now!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't see how abusing hughes is going to help because to be honest it's backfiring. If Hughes gets the sack, I can see players leaving the club on a free transfer. Look what happened to Sven and what the players thought about it?

I don't think Hughes has done a bad job on his first season, yes we lost to 2 very below average teams in forest and Brighton but 2 bad results in the cup and another few bad results in the league doesn't mean the team is underachieving. Yes we have money to buy good players and call me crazy but I don't want to see "superstars" in our club because expectations are going to rise and we will have a bunch of lazy arses playing for us who are doing it for the money.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hughes has to go,he's spent £125m since he took over last summer(he'd spent £40m before the takeover)and we're playin worse than we were last season!! Ask yourself this, where would we be if we had a mourinho, wenger or dare i say it a taggart who had spent that amount,we sure as hell wouldn't be in mid table having just surrendered to an average fulham side!!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. bridge has been dreadful for us. He cant defend, no heading or tackling ability. He has added nothing going forward. Garrido out performed him. He tackled when needed and passed to blue shirts, crossing was good. anyone slagging him off simply hasnt a clue nor have they been watching the games.

I expect Hughes to be gone very soon. He cant galvansie a very expensive side. He is has made some poor judgments that of cost the club. The exclusion of elano is bizarre. Why did he get rid of JO? Banking on bellamy was plain silly i warned in my article when he signed about his injury record and why he has only once scored past 10 in the premier league due to injury. So banking on someone who's knees are shot is a big mistake, and then letting a striker go the rival and out score the one you brought in is embarrasing.

His decision to replace bojinov with evans was laughable. Clearly he hadnt a clue what to do and put on the donkey who only seems to get in the side becasue he's welsh, cant see any ability there worthy of a premier league team.

Too many excuses, we had fit players on the bench why didnt he pick them? Why did he put benjani who had no football at all at hamburg funny enough he was injured in the process. bridge wasnt fit nor bellamy yet he picks them. it's stupid!

Dropping robinho reminded me of the end of keegan with anelka . Trying to prove his strength to the side backfired and simply backfired as an ill thought out whim from someone who is too far out of his depth.

It time to say good riddence to bad news get rid of the hughes and his henchmen, it's been a deeply unpleasant season!

    ReplyDelete
  19. changing managers all the time obviously wont help, but lets be honest he isnt the owners choice is he? they want high profile managers i.e. mourinho.. he is too negative at home playing 1 crocked striker (why we signed him in the first place is beyond me) but as u said above we dont need superstars we need good premiership players to build the base and then maybe in a few years look to try and get the big names.. anyway without being in europe we aint attracting anyone! looking like theres no chance of that this season, and who is going to want to join us in the summer?? ronny rozenthal!?!?!? sack the gaffer NOW

    ReplyDelete
  20. lol ^ we would be lucky to get ronny.

all honestly we need a bigger manager in name and stature someone capable of handling bigger players, good personality who can galvanise a side. Sven had his critics but the team played for him. they are not doing so for hughes, who seems to of isolated players and distanced himself from the squad. No european football next season is disgraceful, i pretty sure robinho will have clauses in his contract about not achieving europe.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I would say with the way Ireland is playing this season and the state of the dressing room which cant think that is a pleasant place to be at the mo Ireland may look to a team with more spirit he gives his all on the pitc for us then looks around to see lack lustered players and even players not playing in their natural positions a team like Arsenal or that other red team that lives near Manchester may look very tempting and less aggro in the dressing room you would never know with stevie better off asking his granny haha

    ReplyDelete
  22. true, but who will either want robinho or be able to afford him? as u say hughes cant handle the big players! the owners signed robbi not the manager.. the manager was also in place before the owners got here.. had the owners come in first do you think they would have appointed hughes? i dont think so!?! bring back sven we were summit like 9-10 points better off this time last year!! theres talk of terry henry kaka ribery.. yeh ok!! like they will come to a team not in europe and very much under achieving!! i believe he has bought in some very good players i.e. swp, kompany and given is probably one of the best signings the club has ever made but for some reason they dont wanna play for the manager.. good summer to re group and re build and id say top 6 finish next year.. keep changing the manager and its square 1 again!! they will want to bring in there own players and own regimes so by keep sacking each manager we are not helping the club but we need SOMEONE who can manage our inconsistent club and bring some much needed consistency to our very huge club.. come on city, this could be the greatest night in european history at the coms this thursday.. THEN AGAIN..........

    ReplyDelete
  23. hughes consistently said in the first half of season that all the work he and his staff were doing on the training ground would pay dividends in the second half of the season and we would be much fitter and stronger for the run in,we've just lost 5 of last 6 games and he wheels out the "we're tired and need to rest players" excuse!! Kind of contradicts his early season comments don't you think!

    ReplyDelete
  24. yeh.. verdict.... HUGHES OUT NOW!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. were certainly not like the blackburn side from last year!! very difficult to beat!! infact were very much the opposite!! hamburg lost in the last minute at the weekend and luks as if most of there players played.. hopefully a bit of an omen.. but were talking about city here!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. does anyone think we will progress from here?? SERIOUSLY??

    ReplyDelete
  27. anyone still on here

    ReplyDelete
  28. Spot on Tommy we do need a big name manager someone who players will play for it seems the team does not respect Hughes at all,
yes bridge is not as good as gerrido richards should not be up and down the wing he does'nt have the skill required its a disgrace and we are a laughing stock the owners are in town on Thursday for the Match and meeting so things may be different come Friday dinner time pleaes god they will ask the players for their opinions on the matter, Whaen uou see Elano this saeson compare to last season you can tell he not happy at all no smiles ever and we really can,t afford to let him go hopefully Jo will get up to speed playing in E.P.L nad return for next season ready for action Boj is hungry for that goal and when he gets it I think a flood gate will open he has a great touch of the ball and will prove himself when he gets the pressure of his shoulders of finding the net

    ReplyDelete
  29. BR121 you can't honestly think it is a good idea for the owners to ask the players their opinion, you can't run football clubs like that. The last time that happened at City it wasn't recieved well either deemed totally unprofessional, the chairman in question at that time was Peter Swales.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have to say I agree about Garrido, he is better than Bridge anybody with eyes can see that, not to say that Garrido is a world beater though.

mark hughes is and always will be a rag there is no place at our club for him

    ReplyDelete
  33. LOL I don't think being an ex Man u player is an issue, we just want a manager that does a good job.

P.S I'm just round the corner from Peel Hall nice to have someone local to me coming on here.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Who ever said petrov played pants is wrong. let's not forget it was his first game back since october. there's no I in team!

    ReplyDelete
  35. If Fulham can score 3 past us at Eastlands, then we can score 2 agaisnt Hamberg.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Maybe Mark Hughes was just trying to lull Hamburg into a false sense of security. If so, he did an excellent job - those substitutions were a masterpiece in that respect.

ps Agree about Garrido - Bridge has had only one half decent match, but Hughes doesn't like anybody speaking Spanish or Portuguese...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Bridge has been crap but please dont start thinking Garrido is a good player and certainly not a defender. Wrong side soo often, turns his back gets caught in limboland too far away from the CBs and not close enough to outside midfield players. He is good going forward and maybe would look bettre with 3 good solid defenders sitting in for him......we dont have them either!!!....I never thought I would see the day when Nedum was our best defender by far....good luck to him and well done
    Now please Mr Hughes....Fuck Off

    ReplyDelete
  38. No No No, your all friggin typical.... sack Hughes... fire Robi, burn the club down and start again...

Give it a rest will you, do you not realise this is the best its been for a while? yeh we had a glory few months under sven but look where that got us!

Whats needed now is for the fans quit their whining, lets lose at Hamburg before you start slagging the lads off!

Hughes is having difficulties, we all know that but hes done more for the club than just picking 11 guys to go on the park, hes changed the whole structure of the football club, the training regime has changed and so has the internal club attitude... and you know yourselves success is gonna take a while, so quit your bitching and support the team!

The question i HAVE to ask is why are you so impatient?? we've waited a hundred twenty for this... we've been consistently shit before, do you think Hughes is Jesus Christ and can turn shite into wine overnight!!
chill your boots girls, its gonna happen!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Gazinio makes a perfect point here, well said.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree another good point from Gazinio.

Rob point taken, I never said Garrido was a good player though, just that I think he is better than Bridge.

And Wigan Blue is that true that he won't play him because of the language he speaks?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Good point my arse ! Look , this idiot has got to go and the sooner the better . We are in the fortunate position of having mega bucks to spend and this idiot should not be the man to spend it ! Hes already wasted a load of it on average if not below average players ! Ask yourselfs how many of hughes signings would get into a top 4 side and the answer will be shay given and thats it ! Hughes just doesnt seem to have a clue and keeps coming out with the same pathetic excuses time and time again !
Then theres his tactical knowledge or lack of it ! We play 1 up front all the time even at home and its just so predictable that any manager worth his salt can suss us out in 2 minutes ! On numerous occasions this season teams have been down to 10 men against us yet this idiot still plays 2 holding midfielders , for gods sake hughes have u got a brain ?

We need a manager like mourinho who can attract players and win games with his tactical knowledge ! I saw an interview with him a while back when he said he changed his formation 4 times in 1 game ,,, for gods sake hughes hasn,t changed his formation 4 times all season ! Hes got to go !

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well I have to disagree with one thing, he has made some good signings. Kompany, Zabaleta, De Jong, Wright-Phillips, Robinho, Bellamy........

These are all good signings and most of them have played quite well for a lot of the season, I think maybe if you questioned why Hughes isn't get the best out of these players that it would be a valid point, but to say he hasn't signed any good players is not true.

    ReplyDelete
  43. In This case Gary I do think so, maybe the voices in the dressing may get to the point of what the hell is going on theres reports that players can not approach the manger !! that even Richie Dunne deos not have direct contact with him !! who knows but like everything else no one seems to take the blame will stay Pearse sure did not a bother to him real man can't say id feel that you could approach sparky at all, if not the oweners that have a god given right with the amount of cash they lashed out then private dicks see what the hell is up because the way things are looking with only few games left and bad vibes about it could get a whole lot worse

    ReplyDelete
  44. Point taken but I am still not convinced that owners can get involved like that.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh and by the way thanks for your input and thanks for adding yourself as a follower of my blog, much appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  46. No probs at all thanks very much for having a blog for true blue city fans feels good yo get if off your chest
your prob right owners cant get involved like that or well turn into newcastle, but sure do wish this bad vibe that seems to surround the team and of late players opening up to the media would get sorted if that means has to go so be its up to him to inspire them and that don't seem to be happening

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yeah Hughes does need to be the motivater, maybe he is worth another season to see if it is true that we were expecting to much this year.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well i have to disagree that zabaletta , dejong , bellamy , kompany and robinho are good signings !
zabaletta = not a midfielder and to slow for right back !
dejong = come on ur having a laff 18 mill for a distinctly average player when palacios was available !
bellamy = no lack of effort or talent but injury prone !
kompany = his distribution is awful and wouldnt get near a top 4 side !
robinho = plays well 1 game in 8 the rest of the time strolls round doing sod all except totally unbalancing the side !

Just coz someone plays for city doesnt automatically make them a good player like some blues seem to think ! If we got a top manager all of these would be shown the door in no time !

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well again I am going to disagree, these are all clearly good players, if we paid to much we paid to much but it doesn't make them bad players.

    ReplyDelete
